RiverDance Where
the Sky Meets the Mountains

Being outside in the Western North Carolina Mountains is what most folks are looking forward to. Madison County has a wide variety of ways to enjoy the outdoors from pulse-racing river rafting and zip-lining to zen-like enjoyment at the Hot Springs Spa or the solitude of a day hike on the Appalachian Trail which goes down the main street of Hot Springs. At RiverDance we have tried to complement the beauty of the twelve-mile view with ample opportunity to just sit and take in all that the mountains afford. Just down the hill is the Big Laurel Creek with its rushing waters perfect for casting for trout or simply lazing around in an inner tube. The two king-sized Adirondack chairs on the knoll are always a place to enjoy. As we get farther with our landscaping plans, watch for exciting news about “we have big plans for “The Knoll”.Relaxation is a hallmark of the RiverDance experience. The soothing sounds of the Big Laurel below coupled with those of nature all around make you feel transported to another place and time. While activities abound around RiverDance, the combination of nature outside along with the calming influence of water and architecture often leads folks to simply “sit and stay awhile”. Board games, movies, taking a nap, sipping a glass of wine,.. help you shift from the hustle and bustle of everyday life back to being connected with those you love.

Your private Fire Pit is one of everyone’s favorite spots at RiverDance.  Looking out the mountains, the Fire Pit offers a great spot for an evening conversation. Sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. Pull up a chair and enjoy.

One of the things that many that visit us love to do is to try zip lining. Originating in Costa Rica as a way to travel quickly along the tree canopy, it is perfectly suited for our mountain environment. Although some might approach it with a bit of trepidation, most folks come back from a day of zip lining and their most common comment is “Best Time I Have Ever Had”.

Our area is also renowned for is the French Broad River, one of the oldest rivers in the world. Take a guided tour down the French Broad and created a memorable experience to share for years. Did I mention that they often provide a delicious lunch?

Just outside our gates is the Laurel River which offers more trout fishing, and the most popular nature walks in the area. Four miles along the river down to the abandoned logging town of Runion. It’s also a very popular place for kayaking when the water is high or simply playing in the water with a man’s best friend who is also welcome to enjoy RiverDance. Short trips to Asheville, our arts capitol of Marshall, or even over to our university town of Mars Hill for festivals and good food.

Even though there is so much to do outside of RiverDance, people are often drawn to just enjoying the serenity that surrounds it. Whether it’s reading a great book on the deck while listening to the sounds of the Big Laurel below, or having some quality family time with good conversation or a favorite board game. And don’t forget the Lookout with that amazing 12-mile view of Viking Mountain in Tennessee.
